Oceanico Laguna, 17th November 2012

Chez Carlos Golf Society played Oceânico Laguna on Saturday, a day that threatened rain but we actually only had a small shower on the first hole, maybe because we were the lucky 13 ? 7 ladies and 6 gents.

Despite the time of year, the course was in good shape although we still had to play under the “winter rules” due to some patches on the fairways. Once again it was proven that the back nine is far more difficult than the front nine. Whilst you breeze through the front nine, as soon as you get to hole 10, a par 5, you get a glimpse of what’s ahead of you. Both par 5’s of the back nine – 10 and 15 – are quite challenging and, looking at the stroke index on the card we could say they are underrated. In between these two par 5’s sits the course’s stroke 1, hole 13, the longest par 4 with 405m.

As someone once said about Laguna, the contrasting front and back nine is what separates the boys from the men and this week was no diferent , with results proven it . Afterwards we headed to Parkys Bar at Parque das Amendoeiras for a well-deserved drink.
