Golf in Portugal – Trade Circuit at Old Course in Vilamoura

Vilamoura Old Course

Trade Circuit at Old Course in Vilamoura

Trade Dom Pedro Circuit at the Old Course in Vilamoura, with a shot gun at 8:30 am in wonderful conditions. I made an interesting score, 37pt including 2 birdies and two blobs. I’m not a player hitting the ball too far but even so I got some greens in regulation and on the other holes some good chipping and good putting make the result. The greens were soft, very smooth and not overly fast and so it was a pleasure to play once again at the Old Course, one of the best golf courses in Portugal and which maintains an unshakeable prestige, precisely because of its wonderful design and which is challenging for all types of players. Dog legs, trees and bunkers oblige the player to place the ball precisely, in order to aspire to a good result, but it is a benefit to spend 4 hours playing that golf course, involved in nature.

There were several prizes, and the winner of the day was Jose Carlos Rodrigues with 43 pt, followed by João Miquelina 38pt and Alexandre Lopes da Cruz also with 38pt.

After 3 rounds the overall classification net is like this:
1st Rosangela Gois representing Tee Times Golf … 112pt
2nd Manuel di Pietro representing Catering Events … 111pt
3rd João Miquelina rep. Design Outlet Algarve … 107pt
4º Carlos Ferreira representing Tee Times Golf … 105 pt.

The last two tournaments to close the Dom Pedro Trade Circuit will be played at the prestigious Victoria golf course on 28th August and 27 November. Good luck to all.

Portugal golf holidays – all-inclusive on Algarve hotels

Portugal golf holidays – all-inclusive regime in Algarve hotels – NAU Salgados Palace Hotel

All-inclusive with great progression in the Algarve

Portuguese tourists are increasingly looking for hotels with the “all-inclusive” system, a way to control expenses, especially when on family vacations or golf breaks.

This modality, widely used in Caribbean Resorts, entitles the client, through an identification bracelet, to accommodation, food and drink throughout the day without having to pay more.

In this moment of crisis, when families with children have to manage very well their budget and want to spend the same vacation days and pay less, the all-inclusive assures them that they will not spend more than the intended amount.

The system is already being used in several hotels in the Algarve, such as Vila Galé Náutico, in Armação de Pera, which last year became a hotel exclusively dedicated to the “all-inclusive” regime.

It is a growing modality in hotels in the Algarve, now becoming a highly demanded segment.

Despite being advantageous for hotels, which guarantee better occupancy rates, this system does not attract some businessmen, who do not believe in its success, as the Algarve is a safe region, has a rich cuisine and good accessibility that facilitate quick access and comfortable displacement of visitors.

In the Algarve, connecting the golf courses to the All-Inclusive offers, we have the group Nau Hotels owners of 3 golf courses, Salgados in Albufeira, Alamos and Morgado in Portimão and therefore they manage to combine their accommodation and golf offer very well with the all-inclusive, in some hotels of the group such as Nau Salgados Palace; Nau Salgados Palm Village and Nau Hotels São Rafael Suites, all in Albufeira.

Also, the Pestana group, which has 5 golf courses, offers an All-Inclusive at the Hotel Pestana Blue Alvor Beach, as well as The Robinson Club Quinta da Ria that combines an excellent All Inclusive with the two golf courses Quinta da Ria and Quinta de Cima, in Tavira.

For golfers in particular the traditional AIl-Inclusive is often not entirely compensatory as they spend many hours out of the hotel, although in many cases such as the Robinson Hotel, guests are encouraged to create their food pack to take with them to the golf course. In this particular hotel, they offer a late dinner, available to clients present at the bar, especially on live music nights.

There is still another modality, practised by some hotels, which is the semi All-Inclusive for drinks after a certain hour of the day, that also became very popular in Algarve.

Vale do lobo Ocean course

Vale do lobo Ocean course

We played yesterday at Vale do Lobo Ocean course on a hot day, but a sea breeze made it very pleasant.

We were 18 players of various nationalities, Portuguese, English, French, Swedish, Scottish and Irish, it is worth mentioning these last two nationalities.

The golf course was in perfect condition, with some greens that were fast and smooth but soft at the reception of the ball, a pleasure to play.

The course is long and has miscellaneous holes, the front nine being played in the north and west part of the resort and the back nine next to the Atlantic, which provides breath taking views and allows for some shots with the murmur of the sea in your ear. It is worth paying attention to the spectacular views on holes 11, 14 and 15. Very good.

The winner this day was Ian Godfrey with 38 points, followed by Fraser Graham with 33pt, and in 3rd 2 players with 30pt Jim Gillis and Peter Collins. Nearest the pin, on 13th, a narrow green well protected by deep bunkers was won by David Ziai, who placed the ball 3 meters from the flag.

We all return to our usual Restaurant in Vilamoura for some drinks and our free nibbles generously offered by João Filipe. Another day well spent.
