Camiral Golf Sustainability Efforts
Formerly PGA Catalunya Resort, Camiral Golf & Wellness is now committed to golf sustainability, especially for your golf holiday in Costa Brava, and has begun a thorough three-year strategy to execute new projects. In addition to improving the resort experience for guests, these measures will cut the use of treated irrigation water by 35%.

The new measures include changing the grass on both golf courses, reducing irrigation areas, and exploring innovative irrigation system options. They build on previous sustainability efforts at the Stadium Course and Hotel Camiral, which included establishing a photovoltaic panel park on the hotel roof for green energy.

Camiral Golf & Wellness, widely regarded as the best golf resort in Spain and a stop on the European Tour, places its emphasis on environmentally conscious water management. CEO David Plana praised the company’s dedication, which began with the opening of the first golf course in 1999 with the use of 100% recycled water for irrigation.

This three-year project, which the CEO estimates will drastically reduce water consumption by at least 35%, demonstrates the resort’s dedication to responsible golf course management. This endeavour further demonstrates their dedication to improving their client experience, as pointed out by David Plana.

Earlier this year, Camiral Golf & Wellness was recognised on the ‘Green 100’ list, which showcases the best environmentally conscious golf courses in Europe, by Golf World magazine.

Tall Fescue was planted on the resort’s greens in 2022, and in 2023, the native drought- and heat-resistant Bermuda Celebration will be used on the tees and in the surrounding areas.

In July 2023, the first phase was completed, according to David Bataller, agronomist director at Camiral Golf & Wellness. This phase features a change in grass variety for tees and surroundings, inspired by the Augustas National in the United States. The grass varieties that were introduced, such as Tall Fescue, Bermuda Celebration, Paspalum Platinum, and Bent Grass, are not only of high quality, but they are also resistant to pests and illnesses, and these varieties were used on the fairways at Augustas.

As part of its dedication to sustainability and environmental consciousness, the Camiral resort works tirelessly to keep its championship courses in immaculate shape. The environmental responsibility and long-term viability of the golf course will be maintained through the use of advanced technology, sustainable methods, and collaboration with in-house biologists. Further evidence of the resort’s commitment to environmental preservation is its 2020 IAGTO Sustainability Award, GEO Certified accreditation, and recognition from the STRI Group.

The third edition of the European Tour Destinations Senior Classic will be held from July 12 to 14 at PGA Catalunya Resort in recognition of the Stadium Course on its twentieth anniversary. The resort of Girona has hosted three editions of the Spanish Open and was the setting for the Final Phase of the Classification School for the European Tour for nine consecutive years until 2016, showing its quality at the highest level.

“This tournament has been growing in strength in the two years since its launch,” says Iain McInally, director of European Tour Destinations. “I must thank the Staysure Tour for making it possible to organize this tournament and show some of our highlights. Linna Golf Club and Lighthouse Golf & Spa Resort, venues in 2017 and 2018, respectively, were both wonderful hosts and we are now delighted to make use of the incredible facilities of PGA Catalunya Resort this year.”

“We look forward to organizing the third edition of the European Tour Destinations Senior Classic and welcoming so many legends of the game to a wonderful golf festival. The tournament will be part of a series of special events planned in 2019 to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of PGA Catalunya Resort and the exciting journey in which we embark for the future, “adds David Plana, CEO of PGA Catalunya Resort.”

“After two wonderful editions of the European Tour Senior Destinations Classic, we are delighted to visit PGA Catalunya Resort in 2019. The Stadium Course is one of the best golf courses in the world, in my opinion and that of many others. It is a true test of golf, but also one to enjoy it. To celebrate a Staysure Tour event is fantastic for everyone involved, “says David MacLaren, head of the Staysure Tour. “The tournament is between the Swiss Seniors Open and the WINSTONgolf Senior Open, which makes it a busy period for our players, but they will enjoy fighting for the points of the Order of Merit.”

TEE TIMES GOLF AGENCY presents green fee prices valid for PGA Stadium golf course and PGA Tour golf course and also the resident green fee tariffs for guest staying at Camiral Hotel or La Vida Hotel.
