Portugal won 24 Prizes in the Oscars of Tourism
The Algarve won the award of best beach destination in Europe
Portugal was on the spotlight at the 2016 World Travel Awards, known as the Oscars of Tourism, winning 24 European level categories (in 2015 Portugal won 14). The awards ceremony was held this Sunday, September 4, in Sardinia, Italy.

Lisbon was considered the best city in Europe for cruises, the Algarve won the award for beach destination in Europe, and Madeira took the best island destination title. Turismo de Portugal won the award for Best Tourist Board. Then, as in previous editions, TAP was recognized as Europe´s leading airline to Africa and South America, while UP Magazine once again took the award for best in-flight magazine. The accolade list in the hotel industry was extensive: Myriad by Sana Hotels took the award for Europe´´s Leading Business Hotel, the Altis Belém Hotel & Spa won the award for Leading Design Hotel, and the Pine Cliffs Resort was recognized as Europe´´s Leading Family Resort.
