Improvements on Chaparral golf course

For the benefit of its members and guests, Chaparral Golf Club, in the Costa del Sol, made a number of infrastructure enhancements in 2022. The golf club’s most recent investment, which was recently finished, was a full refurbishment of the upper part of the practice area.

The first thing that was done was the complete waterproofing of the entire surface, later artificial grass was placed as a trim to integrate into the environment in the most natural way possible and finally, the installation of the new tee line surface was carried out.

After considering the players’ playability and training time, a continuous tee line 35 metres long and 2 metres wide (70 square metres) manufactured from the best materials was installed in place of the individual practice mats. Tee Turf PA XL, a grass composed of high-quality nylon, was selected as the preferred option.

“We went for this particular grass because it is both more durable and more flexible than other polymer materials. After having been tested by more than a thousand golfers, we can confirm that the Tee Turf PA XL type of grass is the one that comes closest to the sensation of hitting natural grass”, said Chaparral Golf Club director Domingo Gavira.

Domingo Gavira explained that the investment is crucial to the athletes’ well-being since the surface significantly lessens the likelihood of injury and physical impact.

Aside from having one of the best driving ranges on the Costa del Sol, Chaparral Golf Club also features a 1,000-square-metre putting green, short-game facilities, and practice bunkers.

Other service enhancements are planned for 2023 as Chaparral Golf Club strives to become the go-to destination for golfers who want to improve their game’s technical aspects in a serene setting amidst pristine nature.

Finca Cortesin won Inspire Action Award

Women’s Golf Day (WGD) has just revealed the winners of the 2022 Inspire Action Awards and Finca Cortesin, the host of the 2023 Solheim Cup, is on the list. The winners are from the United States, Canada, and Spain, demonstrating WGD’s extensive global influence.

«Finca Cortesin is proud to have received the Inspire Action Award from Women’s Golf Day. Providing equal opportunities in the game of golf to women and girls has always been a key focus for the resort since its opening, and for me personally. As host of this year’s Solheim Cup, we are dedicated to creating a lasting legacy in the region», says Vicente Rubio, president of Finca Cortesin, a long-time supporter of Women’s Golf Day.

With our continuous commitments to the R&A’s Women in Golf Charter and our present sponsorship of three Spanish players on the Ladies European Tour, we hope to increase opportunities for women to participate in sports at all levels, both on and off the golf course, says Rubio.

The annual awards, which were unveiled during the PGA Merchandise Show, are presented to individuals and organisations who have made significant contributions to increasing the number of women and girls in golf.

“All of our winners share our commitment to expanding golf’s reach to more women and girls”, says Elisa Gaudet, founder of WGD.

Elisa Gaudet also revealed that WGD 2023 will last for a whole week, from May 30th to June 6th, giving venues unprecedented flexibility in planning events.

Finca Cortesin is a popular golf holiday destination in Costa del Sol due to its outstanding golf course and glamorous resort (Finca Cortesin Golf and Spa) and it’s used to host important golf tournaments.

The Solheim Cup aims to be more sustainable

To enhance its goal of being an environmentally friendly event, the Solheim Cup 2023, a women’s golf competition pitting Europe against the United States from September 18 to 24 at Finca Cortesin golf course, in Malaga, has adopted a new set of sustainability standards. Being hosted on the Costa del Sol, the Solheim Cup 2023 became involved with the “Costa del Sol Zero Footprint” initiative.

Costa del Sol is now the first tourist destination in the world to measure and compensate for the carbon footprint of every visitor, regardless of the nature of their journey. Your golf holidays in Costa del Sol will be, from now on, more sustainable than ever.

As Francisco Salado, president of both institutions, says: “The Costa del Sol is once again a pioneer and becomes a benchmark with a project that Turismo Costa del Sol has been working on for some time and which is another example of the clear commitment that both the Malaga Provincial Council and Turismo Costa del Sol make for the sustainability of this popular golf holiday destination”.

“As an added bonus, sustainability is one of the most telling metrics of a place’s overall appeal, popularity, and reputation. The Costa del Sol, however, is well aware that it must play in that league or risk being left behind. Because we believe that responsible tourist development must serve as the central tenet of the Costa del Sol’s future success”, he continues.

Tourists who visit the Costa del Sol, whether to play in the region’s stunning golf courses or not, can participate in the initiative by visiting the project website, entering the details of their trip, and getting the result of their carbon footprint in kilogrammes of CO2 and its equivalent in trees planted.

Throughout collaboration with another initiative, the “Málaga Viva”, over 340.000 trees have been planted in the province and land banks are being established to reforest and offset the carbon impact.
