Golf holidays in Lisbon. Lisbon has the fourth best gastronomy in Europe

Popular golf holidays destination Lisbon is among the best gastronomies in Europe

According to a survey conducted by Bounce, popular destination for golf holidays Lisbon is the fourth greatest city in Europe for gastronomy fans, after only Paris, Madrid, and Barcelona.

According to a press release sent by the company, which is dedicated to luggage storage in various destinations around the world, Lisbon achieved a score of 7.65 points out of 10 possible, standing out for the number of restaurants per 100,000 inhabitants.

The sixteen restaurants awarded Michelin stars were also taken into account, as were the many social media postings dedicated to the city’s culinary scene.

Paris topped the rankings with a score of 9.31, thanks in large part to the city’s strong social media activity and plenty of Michelin-starred establishments.

The Spanish capital Madrid came in at number two with a score of 8.35, mostly owing to the high density of restaurants per 100,000 residents and the highest total number of restaurants with at least one Michelin star (162).

The third position goes to Barcelona, also in Spain, which obtained an evaluation of 8.07 points, due to the combination of the high number of restaurants per 100 thousand inhabitants, many of which have Michelin stars (24) and a strong presence on social networks.

Lisbon, in 4th place, is followed by major European cities like Amsterdam, London, Vienna, Berlin, Munich and Rome.

The Portuguese capital is the second-most famous golf holiday destination in Portugal and has some of the best golf courses in Europe, like Oitavos Dunes and Praia del Rey.

The journey, the sights, and the victory all meant something to Ángel Ayora. The 18-year-old Spaniard from Málaga won his first Men’s International Amateur Golf Championship of Portugal. Hugo Camelo (4th) and João Iglésias (9th), both from the Portuguese national team, placed in the top 10.

The Par 72 Montado golf course, at the Montado Hotel & Golf Resort, in the Lisbon region, has hosted the International Amateur Golf Championship of Portugal every year since 2011, and this year was no exception. This year, Ángel Ayora won by six strokes over the Englishman Jack McPhail, with a total of 272 strokes.

“I’m very happy”, said Ángel Ayora, absolute national runner-up in Spain in 2022 and member of Club de Golf La Cañada. “I played very well and solidly, managing to keep the ball low against the wind we faced this week. The truth is that I didn’t let myself be affected by anything and I left with an excellent result”.

There was a Spanish double in this year’s International Amateur Championships of Portugal, since on January 28 the women’s competition had been won by Rocío Tejedo, from Valencia.

For the second consecutive year, Hugo Camelo was the best Portuguese in the final table, but if in 2022 he had been 16th, this time he got a top-5.

Montado golf course, near Sesimbra, is one of the finest in the Lisbon region, which is the second most popular golf holiday destination in Portugal. This region has a wide variety of stunning golf courses and some of them are among the best golf courses in Europe.

“The 30th edition of the world’s largest corporate golf tournament is something to celebrate, and this year is the perfect time for current and future sponsors to connect their names with the event. Strengthening the links amongst the many licenced nations will increase the international reach”, states Golf Concept’s founder Estela Sargento.

For the second year running, Golf Concept will be in charge of exclusively organising this event in Portugal, with a total of 6 events taking place at world-class golf courses.

The first competition will take place at the Amendoeira Golf Resort, in the O’Connor Jnr golf course. The course was designed by Christy O’Connor Jr. and already hosted golf tournaments on the PGA Portugal Tour and the Portuguese Golf Federation Circuit.

After Amendoeira, the next stop on the tour will be at the difficult Quinta Do Peru golf course, which will host two events in this Portuguese edition, on May 19 and 20. Due to a large number of players, it was necessary to create an extra event.

The formidable Ponte de Lima golf course, created by Daniel and David Silva, will feature again on this circuit, on June 3rd. After that, the last round before the final will be held at the Santo da Serra golf course, on June 17th.

The national final of the World Cup of Golf Championship Portugal 2023 will be held on July 8 at the Royal Óbidos, which was designed by Severiano Ballesteros and has hosted the Portuguese Open of the Challenge Tour on many occasions.

The team that wins the National Final will represent Portugal in the World Final, held for the second year in a row on the Spanish island of Tenerife.
