Izki Golf hosts the XIX Spanish PGA Doubles Championship

The PGA Spain Golf Tour 2023 returns to the scene, in Izki Golf, almost without time to celebrate Jon Rahm’s victory in the Augusta Masters, the 6th “Green Jacket” for Spain.

Adrian Otaegui, Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño, José Manuel Carriles and Natalia Escuriola are some of the stars that will be in the golf tournament.

To mark the occasion, the XIX PGA Doubles Championship of Spain has been reinstated. This tournament is beloved by pros and is unlike any other on the Spanish national calendar.

The Izki Golf course, in the North of Spain, is ideal for golf tournaments since it was constructed by Seve Ballesteros and is open to the public, fulfilling one of his lifelong goals.

“We have a plaque placed at the entrance to the golf course since his death, but he will be safe in our thoughts”, said Jon Ander Sánchez, director of Izki Golf.

When the Provincial Council and Izki Golf met with PGA of Spain President Ander Martinez last November, the idea of reviving this competition in pairs quickly gained traction.

“We wanted to do something different and special and to recover this tournament was the perfect combination”, explained Jon Ander.

“Izki Golf is much more than a regular golf course. There’s a lot more in it for residents and tourists alike. It is promotion, closeness, accessible and public. And that is why we carry out actions in schools in the area, collaborations with associations and companies, and whatever arises in order to bring golf closer to the population that unfortunately is unaware of it”, added Jon Ander.

The XIX Spanish PGA Doubles Championship will be held between April 12 and 13 at Izki Golf.

Logrono in North of Spain promotes the tourist product ” Golf & Wine”

The Plenary of the City Council of Logrono has approved the creation of the association for the promotion of the tourist product ‘Golf and wine’. The City Council, combining the tourism resources golf and wine, and in a line of continuity with the tourism promotion policies, has made a clear commitment to promoting this combination.

During the last year, meetings and meetings have been held with representatives of the sectors involved, the golf courses in the area of influence of the Logrono city, Public Administrations, entities representing the hotel, wine-making and hospitality sectors, etc., to lay the foundations for the launch of this association, whose main objective is to promote Logroño as a tourist destination, under the golf and wine labels.

They had been trying for several years to consolidate this ‘product club’ to promote the three golf courses in La Rioja and also Izki since they are all on the border between Autonomous Communities. The objective is to create a destination of four golf courses to which the cultural offer of the city of Logrono as well as the gastronomic offer of Rioja and Rioja Alavesa will be added. They had been promoting this concept for several years, but now they have taken a giant step to formalize the management. Once they formally create the association and establish an action plan, they will be very well positioned to continue promoting this important tourism product.

In this way, the association intends to develop plans for the promotion and operation of the “Golf and wine” destination; contribute permanently to close cooperation between its associates by carrying out and exchanging information on past or future events, experiences, ideas and studies or publications related to golf tourism and the ‘Golf and wine’ product; and collaborate with the set of local, provincial, regional, national and international Public Administrations to define objectives and a comprehensive and sustainable tourism policy.

Within the association, there will be two classes of partners. On the one hand, the institutional ones, such as the City Council itself and the public company of the Diputación de Álava Naturgolf, SA, and on the other the four golf courses in the region: El Campo de Logroño, Izki Golf Club, Rioja Alta Golf Club and Sojuela Country Club.

Tee Times Golf Agency recommends a golf adventure in this region as Logrono is a small city and the capital of La Rioja, a stately wine-country town with a heart of tree-studded squares, narrow streets and hidden corners.
Spain’s main wine-producing region, rich in history and traditions which have been preserved since the Middle Ages.
To appreciate the enchantment of the city, the Hotel Sercotel Villa de Laguardia ****, awaits your visit.
The hotel lies in a peaceful setting, on the outskirts of the picturesque, wine-growing town of Laguardia. The property is just 15 km away from Logrono. Guests will find themselves just a few minutes’ walking distances away from the town centre, where several shops, bars, restaurants and nightlife venues can be found.
The four golf courses in the region: El Campo de Logroño, Izki Golf Club, Rioja Alta Golf Club and Sojuela Country Club are the perfect combination for this historical and nature adventure.
