The English is the first European to win at Augusta National since the Spanish Olazábal won in 1999.
It seemed that everything was heading for another yawn on the last lap of the Masters, with Jordan Spieth inexorably move toward the second consecutive title in the first major of the year, but then came the drama for him and glory to England’s Danny Willett, who He became the first European to win on the par-72 Augusta National Golf Club from the Spanish Jose Maria Olazábel in 1999. And this in his second appearance in the tournament (in 2015 was 38). It is also only the second English to win the Masters, after Nick Faldo (champion in 1989, 1990 and 1996).
Willett, who was the 12th second in the world rankings before this success with four wins on the European Tour at age 28, entered the last round tied in fifth with the No. 1 worldwide Jason Day and paragraph 8 Dustin Johnson, the three strokes of Spieth, No. 2 worldwide and commander in the last seven rounds of the Masters since 2015 had led from the beginning.

It was an extraordinary turn of Willett with 5 birdies and no bogey for a 67 (-5) which was the best result of the day alongside their compatriots Paul Casey and Matthew Fitzpatrick. A back that gave him a total of 283 (-5) and allowed him to win with no less than three strokes advantage over Lee Westwood (69) and Jordan Spieth (73), who shared the second place.
The British were in fact in evidence, since the very Casey was ranked fourth tied with the US JBHolmes (68) and Dustin Johnson (71). And there was still Matthew Fitzpatrick also English and sponsored from this Masters by Portuguese application Hole19: shared seventh place with the Danish Soren Kjeldsen (71) and Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama (73).
As the No. 1 worldwide Jason Day, over 73 to share tenth place with No. 3 worldwide Rory McIlroy (71).
