Challenging, majestic and beautiful layout in the mountains. Brilliant design but in need of some TLC. The greens were mottled and not a patch on Aroeira or Quita do Peru. They rely on robots to cut the fairways - which were in excellent Condition but the bunkers looked like they hadn’t been raked for days and their edges unstrimmed for weeks. Not a greenkeeper in sight all day and it shows. Friendly reception. I’d like to go back when there wasn’t a 60kph wind blowing!

This golf course is one of the most beautiful and difficult in the Cascais region. It is in very good condition. It was a challenge to play it, which was a lot of fun to accept. The staff are very friendly, the clubhouse is very, perhaps overly elegant and therefore the drinks are probably far too expensive - you don't have to have that after a strenuous game of golf!

A top quality course in great condition. Excellent facilities including putting green, short practice area and driving range next to clubhouse. Some massive elevation changes throughout the course with huge drops to greens or elevated greens. 17 being my favourite which no doubt is partly influenced by my two on that hole!!! The front 9 is scoreable and then strap in for a roller coaster ride on the back nine. Accuracy and decision making so important. Staff were amazing. A special mention of Gonzalo who did an amazing job of taking care of us. Went out of his way to ensure we had a great day. All other staff we encountered were friendly, professional and ensured we had an enjoyable day. A great day out and look forward to playing again the next we visit Lisbon.

Spectacular and very well maintained course. Many challenging holes. If it’s a hot day or or if you prefer to avoid a tiring walk then beat to take a cart because there are a few steep climbs. Greens have suffered a bit from disease this year and hole 13 a little scruffy, but overall an excellent day’s golf.

It may be the most beautiful and challenging course in Lisbon we have visited this year. The course is quite well maintained and the staff is very nice. Love the view, the landscape, everything. The club house is well equipped with modern buggies. The staff, especially the marshal, is really on top. Excellent service!

Great course in the hills around Sintra with fantastic views. Tee boxes and fairways were ok, but the greens weren't in a good shape because of a lot of bald spots. The quality of the bunkers was very volatile but we had the impression they were in reconstructing phase. Vere friendly staff and afterwards a great diner at the LAB-restaurant by Sergio Arola.

The greens were not in good condition, patchy in places and overall the course wasn't the standard we would expect. They were hollow tyning the greens so only played holes 1-9 on championship course. We had to walk back to club house from the 9th and this took at least 15 minutes. We also played 9 holes on Monastery course and the green were also poor on this nine, they were patchy in places. The staff were friendly and helpful. They were hosting an ECB banking conference the day we played so there was a lot of security onsite.

We played the course for the second time after last year. Expectations were high and we were not disappointed again. The setup is great, hilly landscapes make the courses exciting, varied and you are blessed with beautiful views. The bunkers have great sand and the greens were well mowed but not so fast that they were unplayable. The reception at the reception and the friendliness of the caddy master are also highly rated. We had top modern carts with GPS and since we did not have a flight behind us, we could enjoy the round without stress. The coffee and beer on the club terrace were delicious, but at 65 EUR for 4 beers and 4 coffees not to be compared with the price-performance ratio of the golf course. Lessons learned.

Can’t fault the condition of the course and how well everything was presented. Most of the holes you either play up to or down to the green so it’s makes for getting the right club a bit of the lottery - massive greens so you can find yourselves in 3 putt land thinking you’ve hit one near the flag. One where you want to play it again knowing where things are.

Not the best of experiences: wind was blowing so hard that the ball would not stay on the greens, flagstick came off and most holes unplayable, a good drive would stop mid-air and turn 90 degrees ... etc. However, they did not deem the course unplayable (of course, since then they would have to return the green fees), only offered me to come again and "play rest of the holes" (wonder how that would have been implemented in practice?). I walked through the entire course, played where I could. General condition was fair, fairways were lacking a bit of grass, greens were in okay condition. The layout was not that good with many steep uphill approaches due to small land area, so a bit overrated as a golf course but on a normal day quite okay.

Another round at Penha Longa! And great... I was surprised at how well the course played after the recent wet weather - when I have played before I have lost balls, plugged, on the fairway . This is a hard course and physical (I carried) but it is also the most interesting I have played around Lisbon. The greens were slick and true, the fairways have been left to grow a little and there was no run so scoring wasn't easy. The course was empty - only one person teed off within 2 hours of me! Practice facilities also the best in the area by a country mile.

Course layout exceptional and generous fairways, however, greens recently aerated and very slow and poor condition. Weather conditions (30-40 kmph winds) made some of the holes unplayable. Which were a shame after the expense to play. A course where you have to use a buggy due to the vast spread of the course and walk between some of the tees, however, to hire a buggy was very expensive +50 euros which makes a big difference in you day costs. In summary, great venue, great views and course layout but very expensive day. Look at the weather forecast before committing to play.

Penha Longa Atlantic Championship is a fantastic golfcourse with optical illusion of length on some of the holes. Unfortunately the course wasn't in superb condition: grass on the tee boxes was to high, certain fairways with a lot of weed, contours of the bunkers not well maintained, 3 different types of sand in the bunkers, soft greens (maybe because of heavy rainfall the night before). In relation to the profile and image of Penha Long Resort in the (golf)market this could and should be better. Nevertheless we enjoyed our round of golf but, for a score of 9/10, a bit more work on the maintenance is necessary. Afterwards we had dinner on site in restaurant Arola which was a great experience. All in all a great day !

It's the 5th time I play this course and yet, every time I find a new feature or a new dogleg. There aren't 2 holes the same in this fantastic course. Physically very demanding if your are carrying your own bag, but the water refill stops and the stunning view of the halfway house reward your effort. Greens are always in great conditions from winter to summer and the rough being cut shorter for this round was an extra help. More specifically the par 5 6th and the par 3 17th are gorgeous holes. Looking forward to my next round here.

A spectacular golf course played on dream conditions: blue sky, 18°, minimum wind. It is a hilly course with long par 4, which appears quite difficult even under top conditions. The first holes in the valley can be damp and muddy, but other holes on top of the hill are in excellent conditions. Our buggy was much appreciated. The whole resort is magnificent with high class hotel and superb cuisine in the restaurant (Arola) overlooking the Atlantic course. A great day to remember!

Golf dans un environnement boisé situé tout près de Lisbonne, dessiné par le célèbre Robert Trent Jones Junior. Le parcours est proche d'un circuit automobile, cette proximité peut être gênant à certains moment. Le tracé est plutôt intéressant, souvent vallonné et étroit sur quelques trous. Cependant, je trouve que le parcours est moins varié sur les trous situés en milieu de parcours. Les trous 6 et 7 sont vraiment agréables à jouer. Le 6 est un par 5 en descente avec un grand obstacle d'eau sur la partie gauche. Sur la droite se trouve une ancienne ruine antique qui donne un certain charme à ce trou. Concernant l'entretien, il est assez moyen, les greens ne sont vraiment pas bons. Les fairways ne sont pas toujours dans un très bon état. Je trouve le prix du green-fee relativement cher pour la qualité proposée. Ayant joué quelques parcours dans cette région (Praia d'El Rey, Royal Obidos, Oitavos Dunes). C'est celui que j'ai le moins apprécié...

Great day at Penha Longa . Challenging course but playable even for high handicappers . Our scores were moderate but on quite a few holes ,net pars and even a few birdies were made . Greens were fairly good considering the dry conditions and balls were running fast and true . The staff at the course were very friendly and helpful . Clubs were cleaned for us after the round ! We have previously played the course and will definitely come back .

Unfortunately this was not a good experience. In our party of 12 we have several single handicap golfers who were very disappointed. The fairways and course in general is quite challenging and has some really good holes. However the greens were terrible! Most had a viral of fungal disease which left large areas with brown pockmarks so putting in a straight line was impossible. We discussed this with the manager afterwards who was very apologetic and clearly aware of the issue. Had we been advised before we would not have played. If such a problem occurred in other courses prospective players would have been told in advance and no doubt a discount offered if still wanting to play. I have played the course before and found it a good experience so as group organiser I felt let down. I hope that Tee times can follow up.

Rough was overgrown in places with lots of clover, making it difficult to find a ball even when near the fairway and almost impossible to play it. Some holes has obviously been cut when grass was long and wet and loose grass then made it hard to even find well struck shots. Some greens were poor. Overall, not a good golfing experience

Excelent golf course, for us much more better than Oitavos... Fairways in very good condition even after heavy rain the day and night before. What was uncomfortably was the pace of play - almost from the second tee we had to wait on every single tee... and no marshal on the course! We d?idn't see any marshal durng the whole round. Design and feeling form the course are really very positive, course seems to always been there.

Some holes (maybe four altogether) on the course were a bit muddy and (understandably) we could only drive on paths which slowed down the speed of play a bit. It was quite windy on higher hills but in general very pleasant experience with nice views! Greens were in good shape. Estoril race track sounds are quite present on the course (depending on the wind direction) but that's not a big harm.

This was an excellent course and facilities. The only thing that took away from our enjoyment was the fact that the buggies were confined to the paths. There was no 90 degree rule in operation and as some of our group are in the late 60's and mid 70's it was a chore for them. On reaching your ball if you had the wrong club with you, rather than cross all the way back to the buggy to get the right one people used the club they had with them..

An interesting and challenging course, but questionable value for money considering we paid £70 each. Some of the fairways were not in great condition - it seems they maintain the course solely for the high profile events that take place here, and aren't too bothered if it's a bit ropey the rest of the time. Furthermore, Estoril racetrack is nearby, and the sound of roaring race cars breaks the relaxation somewhat. Very nice (expensive) clubhouse.

2 years ago Penha Longa suffered also about wet conditions and was not very playable. At Penha however some improvements have been made since that and drainage has been improved significantly (clear marks about it on fairways) and result is that even during winter period with more rainy days, course seems to remain in nice and playable condition. Greens were in very good condition. Overall a very satisfying experience - will be back.
