Penina Championship is a Sir Henry Cotton design, located just inland from the coastal resort of Alvor. A very challenging course which is very flat, narrow and long. You will find very good greens which are very well protected with bunkers. There are trees and high rough, you will need to play straight or you could easily go out. There is a long Par 4 to start which is slightly challenging and has a dog leg left. Penina would suit players of all standards and is a fairly friendly course for ladies enabling them to enjoy a shorter distance with 676m between the red and yellow tees. A great golf course with one of the Par 3’s, hole 13 the most memorable and voted one of the best 500 holes in the world!

Course absolutely fantastic design, greens ok but fairways could do with a little TLC

It was nice to at last visit Penina today as hadn’t done previously. However we were extremely disappointed with a few aspects of our visit. We do not intend to visit again as a result.
Firstly we arrived to be told that there were no buggies or electric trolleys left, but we could have pull trolleys. However it did appear that hotel guests all had buggies reserved for them.
Secondly, the course was really in a terrible dried out state with very little grass on fairways etc. such a shame as could see that the layout was really good with well defined holes.
Today, the course was extremely busy. Waits at every hole.
No sign of any drinks buggy out on course.
Overall a very poor experience.

It's been a few years since I last played Penina and I was shocked with the condition of the course. The course still has some great holes but badly needs some investment and TLC.
Reception and shop staff were very helpful and friendly.

Penina was in reasonable condition, probably the best of the 4 courses we played

Course in very good condition playing long. Greens good and true. Very well looked after by all staff. Tough conditions due to playing in temperatures in the thirties.
