Christy O’Connor Jnr golf course, opened in 2008 located at Amendoeira Resort 4km inland from Armaçao de Pera. A slightly hilly course therefore a buggy is recommended. O’Connor is a very long golf course with various water features, both lakes and watercourses spread throughout the golf course, wide fairways and large fast greens with lots of bunkers. The first hole describes these course, very opened fairway and with big greens. This golf course would suit players with a medium or medium low handicap and is a fairly friendly golf course for ladies enabling them to enjoy a shorter distance with 697m between the red and yellow tees. Salgados Golf Course
Salgados Golf Course is a par 72 course located by the sea shore, near the renowned holiday resort of Albufeira, Algarve. Salgados Golf couse is actually set on a beautiful nature reserve, filled with migratory bird species, among them, the stunning pink flamingo, so whilst playing you'll also have the chance to admire some of these wonderful birds. Salgados' main element is, without a doubt, water. In fact, every hole apart from 17 has a lake on it, so if you're able to play the same ball start to finish consider yourself lucky! Salgados is a flat, modern links-style golf course with a tropical feel, enhanced by the pleasant sea-breeze.Hole 1, a par 4, offers you the opportunity to start your round with a birdie as you'll have plenty of space for your shots. But remember that since it's quite open you'll need to consider the wind factor. But an easy start nonetheless. Hole 2 is a difficult par 5 for most where your 2nd shot determines your success. Hole 7 is a great par 4 and the course's stroke 1 so keep your expectations tamed and don't be disappointed with a five. As you get to hole 12, a par 3, your choice of club is key. The back nine of Salgados golf course has two par 5's, 14 and 15, 14 is more accessible whilst 15 is a real par 5, where you'll need 2 and sometimes even 3 woods to have a chance at a good score. The greens at Faldo golf course are not very big and are very fast, you will also find lots of bunkers. Faldo golf course would suit players with a medium and medium low handicap and is a very friendly golf course for ladies golfers enabling them to enjoy a shorter distance of 1.155mt off the yellow tees. Pine Cliffs golf course is a 9 hole golf course located just outside Albufeira. An excellent challenge allows you to use the yellow tees 2019mt for the first round and the white tees 2226mt for the second round. The golf course has medium greens and hard rough if you miss the fairway and is quite narrow and short. Hole 6 named ‘Devil's Parlour’ is 190m over the cliff and one of the most photographed. Its various water features, both lakes and watercourses that are spread throughout the entire course, demand accuracy and tests the skill of all golfers. The rich topsoil has been skillfully landscaped and planted with mature palm trees, affording a lush, ornamental setting like an extensive oasis. This course has tees that are generally connected to the fairways, but its greater overall distance, the water hazards and big greens provide its challenge. Golfers must also be prepared to read the subtly contoured putting surfaces that are strong features. Fairly friendly golf course for ladies enabling them to enjoy a 697m cutback from gents’ tees. Salgados Golf Course
The Salgados Golf Course 18 holes para 72, is a design of Pedro Vasconcelos and was created as a typical links course. Opened in 1994, the course gives a true tropical feeling due to hundreds of palm trees embroidering fairways, separating them from the occasional lakes.
Highlight holes include the narrow par three 3rd, where the fairway is flanked by water on both sides, and the par five 6th, which doglegs right to a green featuring a pronounced back to front slant. On the back nine the 15th and 18th are both rather intimidating, with very precise shot placements required to avoid trouble of the tee.
Don’t be fooled by the scorecard announcing a standard scratch score of three shots less than the par of 72 from the regular gents’ tees because Salgados is nowhere near that easy a course, especially if there’s a 30mph wind blowing. It’s a track worth playing, even just to see how long you can keep your original ball in play.
Amendoeira Faldo
The 18-hole sir Nick Faldo Golf Course impresses at the very first sight. Cactus and desert areas mixed with oaks and ancient olive trees make the contour of your eyesight. From the very first tee box the golfer can see the importance of a well-placed shot. Wide greens with some precise lines will complete the challenges.
The downhill, Par 5, hole 4, encounters a meandering watercourse, which comes into play on three of the front 9 holes and two of the inward play. In the back 9, the 11th Par 3 demand a perfect shot to avoid all the bunkers. The 13th hole will stay in mind as it is a downhill really long Par 5 with 640 meters from the back tee. The 18th, demands a good tee shot in order to pass safely over the stream on your second shot to leave a short wedge to reach the green, surrounded by an impressive rugged slope. Pine Cliffs Golf
Pine Cliffs Golf Course has 9 holes and its opening dates from 1991.
Designed by Martin Hawtree. It is a very well-maintained course located on the cliff top near Albufeira, 60 metres above sea level.
The course is not long (2000 metres) and flows along umbrella pine trees. The signature hole, the number 6, nicknamed ‘Devils Parlour’, is played from the tee over a ravine to a not so large green 197 metres away. Missing it is losing the ball down into the ravines. The 1st tee and the 9th green are just in front of the usually crowded club house, which calls for good starting shots and perfect finish. The golf course displays two alternate tees for the first and second round, in case players want to play 18 holes. Easy walking golf course.
Balaia Golf Course
The 9-hole Balaia Golf Course opened in 2001. It is a par 3 golf course ranging from 58 to 160 metres, which offers the opportunity to improve iron shots and short game. Located inside of the Balaia Village Resort it presents at the first tee a charming view of two lakes and an old wooden bridge. This course will test the ability of a golfer to control shots length and direction. Those with more experience will find an opportunity to accurate their short game from the very first tee. The course also has a good driving range where any kind of club can be tested, from driver to lob wedge.
