The San Roque New course is laid over a scant 45 hectares, a vaguely triangular-chaped oblong lying parallel to the ocean and with a sacrosanct nature reserve running along one boundary. To complicate matters, its centrepiece was a huge hill festooned with cork and oak trees. Plainly, ''shifthing dirt'', as the Dye dynasty has it, was a priority, as was transplating trees, hundreds of them.
San Roque New is an all-round examination of ability and character where the major test invariably awaits with the approach shot. The New course greens, though large, present small targets in that they have a narrow opening or are angled, often side-on and partially hidden by subtle mounding. The lay-up will be a popular option here.

It’s a course where you can se that the money is spend on the Old course.
But the price reflects the condition.

Greens were GUR however were given a refund. The rest of the course was in very nice condition. The service was excellent and the staff members were very very friendly on arrival, in the shop and at the bar.

The course had undergone maintenance when we played so it wasn’t in best condition.
Easier access to tees and bunkers needs to be addressed, they are far too steep in places, also some of the fairways.
Interesting course layout but needs time to mature.

Good value for money. We always enjoy playing the new course at San Roque and do so every time we travel to Spain. Excellent clubhouse service throughout.

The New Course is very much the “Second” Course @ San Roque and largely discontinued by many players. It is good value for money…but not in any way a destination course. Good selection of holes…..which might look “scabby” but actually play quite well. Greens were true and fast…..but again didn’t look aesthetically pleasing. Tiring course if you walk.

Very nice course layout. Greens looked in poor condition but actually run fairly true and were quite a good pace. It looks like more time and effort has been spent on work getting the old course to a high level at the detriment to this course but still an enjoyable days golf

Slightly disappointed not to be playing the more famous and recently renovated Old course (we will definitely return to do so) we set off on our round not quite knowing what to expect. Our welcome had been very friendly and helpful, the clubhouse and overall setting is super smart and you really have the feeling of visiting an exclusive club. As it turned out we needn’t have worried about the quality of the course. The ‘New’ is beautifully designed with undulating, heavily bunkered fairways, in places narrow enough to challenge even the best players. The greens are not quite to the standard of Valderrama or Finca Cortesin but are pretty good by any normal measure. The whole course was in brilliant condition when we played it - quiet and hugely scenic. A definite one to add to your programme if you’re playing in this part of the world. A totally enjoyable experience.
