Montecastillo Golf Course is a Jack Nicklaus design, one of the most popular golf resorts in the world and it hosted the Volvo Masters Andalucia for five consecutive years beginning in 1997 when Lee Westwood won the event. Fantastic, challenging golf course. Strategy needed on every hole and some pretty daunting views from the tee.
By far the best course I played in Marbella.
Parking was free and very easy despite some of the reviews we read, my only criticism was that we were understandably kept well clear of the hotel area, the golf reception and buggy collection is under the hotel,. with the absence of a clubhouse we didnt feel as though we could go for a drink or lunch afterwards. I played at Bavaria Golf Club 19th August and returned for a second round on 23rd August having played here in June 2023 - it is a 20 minute drive from the centre of Nerja not far from the A7. The course facilities are excellent and staff including Javier and Sam in the Pro Shop could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The course is currently operating under drought conditions having had little rain for almost 2 years in this part of Spain. Although the fairways are in poor condition the Tees and Greens were excellent and the varied course with many water features is very enjoyable to play. The club kindly gave us a vouchers for a complimentary drink in view of the environmental conditions and provided a frozen towel to freshen up on the back 9 which was most welcome with temperatures around 30 degrees C although with a pleasant sea breeze! I hope to return to play at the course next year perhaps a little earlier in the summer season. Read more about Baviera Golf Course

The bunkers were big and lots of them, I suppose to make the course play a little more difficult. Most bunkers were not raked as there was no rake to use. The complete club needs serious attention. Very ice course with broad fairways , fairways and greens vwey well prepaired.Surroundings in original status , dont losse a ball , very difficult to find again.Buggy very well recommended for elderly people.Everything looks very sophisticated , also clubhouse with very freinsl receptionist.Almost no people on the course.Funny enough , everything was closed , when we finishes at 14.00 h( also reception ) No food ( see tripadvisor ) , no drinks , nothing , still we liked very much the course with wonderful look to Arcos.
