“The next chapter is here” - general manager of Tivoli Vilamoura
“The next chapter is here”, said Tivoli Marina Vilamoura Resort general manager Hugo Gonçalves at a dinner for partners, top customers, and the press at the renovated Algarve hotel.
This year marks the hotel's 36th birthday, and the invitation to experience a chapter written with “a lot of dedication, a lot of love and a lot of professionalism” allowed guests to see the renovation in person.
Starting in January 2022, the first phase of the remodelling was finished in 3 months. The most recent phase involved closing the hotel in November of last year to reopen on February 1. And it opened with 100% occupancy, reveals Hugo Gonçalves.
The general manager of the Vilamoura resort has provided three explanations for the renovation. Prioritizing the needs of an international clientele and those more closely associated with the MICE sector necessitates an overhaul of all areas and the development of “mandatory functionality”. Abroad, the goal was to satisfy the need of leisure customers for more private areas. In the end, sustainability was another guiding principle.
Given the need for a return on investment, the general director predicts a 20% to 25% rise in revenues this year.
Three or four events, including two international ones, were hosted in February alone, which was crucial in order to “break the myth of seasonality”.
The manager freely confesses, “winter occupancy is very good”, and that not only is demand high for the months of October, November, and December due to events, but it also stretches all the way to May. He sums up the current state of the industry by saying, “Demand is good, events are booked well in advance, which allows us to have an ambitious perspective and give a good positivism to the occupation”.
The leisure market, which “asked” for this makeover, will now grow. Hugo Gonçalves says capacity is almost 80% and demand will increase until Easter. “We came out of difficult years”, says the manager, and bookings are up from 2019.
